Henry Hamilton represented MRead at The Siem-Reap Angkor Summit for a Mine-Free world, and was joined by John Shanahan to visit HALO's Cambodian minefields following the conference.
The summit was the Fifth Review Conference of the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention, and brought together representatives from state parties, NGOs, demining operators and landmine survivors from all around the world. It was an opportunity to reflect on the progress that has been made towards a mine free world and look at the future challenges in preventing their use and clearing up post-conflict land.
We were also hosted by Olivia Homewood and HALO, where we were given insights into the survey process for identifying and classifying minefields, visited an anti-tank minefield and explored the logistics challenge of supporting these operations in hard-to-reach areas. HALO's support has been fantastic.
It was clear that the challenges inherent in safe and effective landmine clearance require new technologies. MRead's technology was highlighted in Adam Jasinski's presentation on innovation in mine action as a solution that was addressing real challenges in their clearance process.
Thank you to the kind people of Cambodia for hosting a successful conference and everyone who shared their time and insights with us.
